GUDOGUY
The movie-quiz YouTube channels GUDOGUY: their production tool and their viewers' quiz site.
GUDOGUY has two parts. GUDOGUY Editor (editor.gudoguy.com) is an internal web application in which a small team writes, assembles and renders movie-quiz videos for its own YouTube channels; it is not a public service, and accounts are created by the team for its members. GUDOGUY Quiz (club.gudoguy.com) is a public site for the viewers of the channels' live quiz streams, described below.
How it uses YouTube
A channel owner signs the channel in with Google once. After that, for every video the team has uploaded to that channel, the editor sets on YouTube what the team wrote for it:
- the title, description and tags;
- the category, the "made for kids" setting and the altered-content disclosure;
- the custom thumbnail;
- the playlists the video belongs to;
- the scheduled publication time of a private video.
It also reads the comments viewers leave under the channel's videos, so the team knows what its audience thinks of each episode - what was too hard, what they want next - and lets the team answer them from the channel: a reply goes to YouTube only when a team member writes and sends it. It never edits, deletes or moderates a comment.
To let the team choose which uploaded video an episode is, the editor lists the channel's own recent uploads and playlists. It reads the YouTube Analytics statistics of the channel's own videos - views, watch time, retention, traffic sources - so the team learns how each episode did; only aggregate numbers, nothing about individual viewers. It does not change anything on channels that have not been connected, and it does not read monetization data.
GUDOGUY Quiz
During live streams on the channel, viewers guess films from stills by writing in the live chat and earn points. The quiz site shows the leaderboard, each player's page with their streams and the achievements they have earned. A viewer can sign in with Google to find their own page: the site asks only for read-only access to see which YouTube channel they are, uses it once and does not keep the access.
Your control
Access can be revoked at any moment: with the Disconnect button on the editor's YouTube page, which revokes the token at Google and deletes it from the editor, or in your Google Account under Third-party apps with account access. Details are in the privacy policy.
